Play Spoons online
Spoons in the browser, for nothing: open a table, send the code to whoever is playing, and let a bot take any chair nobody fills.
- 3-8 players
- Bots for empty seats
- Free
- Nothing to download
A free account opens the table. Friends you invite join without one.
How Spoons is played here
The rules this table deals by. Everybody at the table sees the same lines before the first hand.
- Four cards to each player from a full deck. The dealer keeps the rest as the stock.
- No turns. The dealer draws whenever they are down to four, and everybody passes a card to the left whenever they are up to five.
- Four of a kind and you take a spoon. The moment anybody does, everybody else may — and there is one spoon fewer than players.
- Whoever is left without takes a letter. Spell the word and you are out; the last player left wins.
How it works
- Open a table. It gets a short code of its own.
- Read the code out, or send the link. Anyone you send it to sits down as a guest, without an account.
- Deal once everyone is seated — or give each empty chair a bot and start now.
How multiplayer Spoons works
Playing Spoons online with other people, step by step: the code, the seats, the table rules, and what happens when somebody drops out.
Inviting the table
The host opens the table, which needs a free account, and shares its six-character code or the link from "Copy link". On a phone "Challenge a friend" stands beside it, and hands that invitation straight to Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat or whatever else you chat in. Everyone who follows it picks a name and sits down as a guest; nobody else needs an account.
Spoons here is for three to eight players. Everybody should be in the lobby before the first round, because a game in progress cannot be joined. If the table is short, the host can press "Add an opponent" to seat a bot.
The line
The players sit in the order they joined, and the dealer is the start of the line. The dealer presses "Draw a card" whenever they hold four; everyone who holds five passes one on with "Pass one card on". The last player in the line passes onto the discard pile.
You see your own four cards, how many cards everyone else is holding, the stock, and the spoons left. Nobody else sees your cards.
The scramble
When you hold four of a kind, "Take a spoon!" lights up. The moment anyone takes one, the button lights up for everyone, and the count of spoons left drops. Whoever is left when the spoons are gone takes a letter.
Pressing after the last spoon has gone costs nothing — the table just tells you that you were a moment late.
Rounds and letters
The host chooses before the game whether three letters (S-P-O) or six (S-P-O-O-N-S) spell a player out. After each round the table shows who took a letter, and the next round starts once everyone has pressed "Ready for the next hand". The deal passes to the next player.
A player who has spelled the word is out and watches the rest. One spoon is taken away each time, and the last player left wins.
If somebody drops out
A player whose connection drops is shown as away and waited for twenty-five seconds. After that a bot plays their cards until they return, and opening the table again gives them their seat back. A player who presses Leave mid-game is replaced by a bot for the rest of it.
If the host leaves, hosting passes to whoever has been sitting longest. A table with no activity for six hours is cleared away.
Questions about playing Spoons online
- How many can play Spoons online here?
- 3 to 8 at one table. A bot can take any seat nobody fills, so a game never has to wait for somebody to turn up.
- Can I play Spoons against the computer?
- Yes. Give any empty seat a bot and it plays like anyone else at the table, seeing only its own cards.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. Every table here is free, there are no ads, and nothing about you is sold or handed on.
- Do I need an account?
- Only to open a table. Joining one never needs an account — anyone you send the code to sits down as a guest.
- Does Spoons work on a phone?
- Yes. It runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and there is nothing to install.
