How Briscola is played here

The rules this table deals by. Everybody at the table sees the same lines before the first hand.

  • Two or four players — never three. Forty cards and three in every hand have to divide evenly.
  • Ace, three, king, queen, jack, then seven down to two. The three above the king is the thing to learn first.
  • There is no obligation to follow suit at all. A card of a suit nobody led and nobody trumped simply cannot win.
  • Ace eleven, three ten, king four, queen three, jack two. A hundred and twenty in the pack, and sixty-one takes the deal.

How it works

  1. Open a table. It gets a short code of its own.
  2. Read the code out, or send the link. Anyone you send it to sits down as a guest, without an account.
  3. Deal once everyone is seated — or give each empty chair a bot and start now.

How multiplayer Briscola works

Playing Briscola online with other people, step by step: the code, the seats, the table rules, and what happens when somebody drops out.

Inviting the table

The host opens the table, which needs a free account, and shares its six-character code or the link from "Copy link". On a phone "Challenge a friend" stands beside it, and hands that invitation straight to Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat or whatever else you chat in. Everyone who follows it picks a name and sits down as a guest; nobody else needs an account.

Briscola here is for two or four players. Everybody should be in the lobby before the first deal, because a game in progress cannot be joined. If the table is short, the host can press "Add an opponent" to seat a bot.

Two or four, and the table rules

Two players play alone. At four you play in partnerships, first and third to sit down against second and fourth, partners opposite each other. Three cannot play: three cards each out of forty leaves a card nobody can draw.

The host chooses a single deal, first to two deals or first to three, and presses "Start the game" when everyone is seated. Everyone sees the choice.

Your turn

When it is your turn the table says so: any card at all. Tap the one you want to play. There is no suit to follow and nothing to get wrong.

The trump suit and the turned card stay in view all deal, with the number of cards left to draw. The table also keeps each side's points so far, so you never have to count your own pile.

After each deal

The table shows what the deal came to: each side's points out of 120, and who took it with 61 or more. Sixty each is nobody's deal and does not count.

The next deal starts once everyone has pressed "Ready for the next hand", and the deal passes to the right. There is no chat and no signalling, so at four you play your partner's hand by reading what they throw.

If somebody drops out

A player whose connection drops is shown as away and waited for twenty-five seconds. After that a bot plays their cards until they return, and opening the table again gives them their seat back. A player who presses Leave mid-game is replaced by a bot for the rest of it.

If the host leaves, hosting passes to whoever has been sitting longest. A table with no activity for six hours is cleared away.

Questions about playing Briscola online

How many can play Briscola online here?
2 to 4 at one table. A bot can take any seat nobody fills, so a game never has to wait for somebody to turn up.
Can I play Briscola against the computer?

Does it cost anything?
